    Job Description � Boys Varsity Soccer Coach

    Position Title

    Boys Varsity Soccer Coach

    Reports To

    Athletic Director and Building Principal

    Position Purpose

    The Boys Varsity Soccer Coach is responsible for leading and supervising the high school boys' soccer program in a manner that promotes student growth, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, academic success, and athletic development. The coach shall organize and administer all aspects of the program while supporting the mission, values, and expectations of Griffith Public Schools.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Program Leadership

    • Direct and supervise all aspects of the high school boys' varsity soccer program.
    • Develop and implement practice plans, game strategies, and off-season programming.
    • Promote a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented culture within the program.
    • Model and reinforce sportsmanship, integrity, respect, and appropriate conduct.
    • Establish clear expectations for student-athletes regarding behavior, academics, attendance, and commitment. 

    Student-Athlete Development

    • Promote the academic achievement and well-being of student-athletes.
    • Encourage leadership, responsibility, teamwork, and character development.
    • Monitor athlete eligibility and communicate concerns to administration and families as appropriate.
    • Provide appropriate instruction in soccer fundamentals, conditioning, safety, and game preparation. 

    Supervision and Safety

    • Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes at practices, contests, travel, and team events.
    • Maintain a safe environment and enforce safety procedures and Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) regulations.
    • Inspect equipment and facilities regularly and report concerns promptly.
    • Respond appropriately to injuries, emergencies, and student concerns. 

    Communication and Collaboration

    • Maintain professional communication with athletes, parents, administration, officials, staff, and community members.
    • Work collaboratively with middle school and youth programs to support program development and continuity.
    • Attend athletic department meetings, parent meetings, and other required events.
    • Support multi-sport participation when appropriate and collaborate positively with other coaches and programs. 

    Administrative Responsibilities

    • Follow all district policies, athletic department procedures, and IHSAA rules and regulations.
    • Complete required paperwork, rosters, eligibility reports, transportation requests, inventory records, and end-of-season reports in a timely manner.
    • Assist with scheduling, fundraising activities, equipment management, and program budgeting as assigned.
    • Ensure proper care, security, and inventory of uniforms, equipment, and facilities. 

    Professional Expectations

    • Maintain professionalism and appropriate conduct at all times.
    • Serve as a positive representative of Griffith Public Schools and the athletic department.
    • Participate in required trainings, certifications, and professional development activities.
    • Maintain required coaching certifications, including CPR/AED and concussion training. 

    Qualifications

    • Previous soccer coaching experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of soccer fundamentals, rules, conditioning, and player development.
    • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members.
    • Must meet all IHSAA, district, and state coaching requirements. 

    Working Conditions

    • Requires evening, weekend, holiday, and summer responsibilities.
    • Requires travel to athletic contests and events.
    • Work may involve outdoor conditions and physical activity associated with coaching and supervision.  

    Terms of Employment

    • Position follows the athletic coaching assignment and stipend schedule approved by the Griffith Public Schools Board of School Trustees.
    • Employment is contingent upon successful background checks and completion of all required trainings and certifications. 

    Evaluation

    Performance will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and/or Building Principal in accordance with district procedures and expectations for athletic personnel.
