Job Overview

At Leeds United, we know that success on the pitch starts with strength behind the scenes.

In this role, you will support the Head Groundskeeper in maintaining the playing surface and surrounding areas of our football facilities to ensure they are safe, consistent and meet competition standards. The role involves hands on turf management, daily maintenance and long-term pitch planning

What are some responsibilities?

Carry out maintenance works to the pitch and associated grounds and facilities as instructed, to a good standard, such as mowing, watering, fertilizing, aerating and repairs to keep the pitch in optimal condition

To undertake, but not limited to, maintenance of grass areas, hedgerows and outside boundaries to maintain the aesthetic and standards of the ground

Operate machinery and equipment associated with sports pitch and ground maintenance as instructed.

Ensure machinery and equipment is used correctly and kept clean, and when not in use, ensure they are stored away

Support with matchday preparation by, for example, marking lines, setting up goals, and corner flags, checking pitch safety and preparing the surface for training or games

Assist and support in the preparation of the playing surface to a high standard and undertaking all duties as guided to ensure the best possible playing surface

To help and assist in inclement weather or other factors predicted to ensure that games go ahead. This may involve frost protection, drainage measures or any other additional action required to ensure games go ahead on schedule. This may also involve actions in relation to public areas to ensure safety.

Assist the Head Groundskeeper and their team to ensure that the pitch(s) and stadium is prepared correctly for fixtures and other events involving the playing surface

To be trained to ensure that all machinery is maintained to a safe and adequate standard.

Undertake general maintenance tasks in relation to the playing surface and surrounding areas

Person Specification

Essential

NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Management or equivalent qualification

Experience in working on professional sports pitches is desirable

Demonstrate experience in a Grounds Maintenance role with knowledge of health and safety legislation in practice.

Knowledge of correct application of chemicals and fertilizers and strong understanding of automatic irrigation systems.

Experience in using pedestrian and ride on machinery.

Ability to plan maintenance around the football training schedule.

Desirable

- Experience with maintenance on reinforced pitches preferably, Hybrid or Fibresand surfaces.
- Understanding the process behind the use of SGL growing lights.

PA1, 2a and 6 spraying certificates
