This role will lead, manage, and coordinate all casual scouting activity within Sector 4, ensuring comprehensive coverage of grassroots football across the designated region.
The Sector 4 Scout Lead will be responsible for identifying high-potential players aligned with the academy’s recruitment strategy while maintaining high standards of reporting, communication, and safeguarding.
What are some responsibilities?
Scout Management & Coordination
- Manage and coordinate a network of scouts operating within Sector 4.
- Allocate fixtures to ensure effective coverage of grassroots matches, tournaments, and development centres.
- Develop strong relationships with grassroots clubs, leagues, schools, and tournament organisers within the sector.
- Monitor scout performance and maintain high reporting standards by providing regular feedback and guidance.
- Conduct regular check-ins with scouts to review activity, coverage, and player observations.
Fixture & Coverage Planning
- Develop and maintain a fixture coverage strategy to maximise visibility of priority age groups (e.g., U7–U14).
- Distribute fixture schedules and coverage plans to casual and part-time scouts within the sector.
- Ensure priority fixtures, tournaments, and emerging talent environments are consistently monitored and covered.
Talent Identification
- Identify players who meet the academy’s technical, tactical, physical, psychological, and social benchmarks.
- Attend key fixtures personally when required, including high-priority player matches, tournaments, and cup finals.
- Support the progression of identified players through the academy’s trial, assessment, and recruitment pathway.
Communication & Collaboration
- Act as the primary liaison between Sector 4 scouts and the central recruitment team.
- Deliver structured updates on emerging talent and local football activity.
- Promote professional conduct and compliance with academy and league standards.
Person Specification
Essential
Proven experience in grassroots or academy scouting
Strong knowledge of local grassroots football landscape within Sector 4
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Ability to manage and motivate a network of casual scouts
FA Safeguarding & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Enhanced DBS clearance – must be obtained before starting.
Working knowledge and scouting experience in local grassroots football and talent Identification & player profiling
FA level 1 Talent Identification
Understanding and in-depth knowledge of football techniques and skills in shooting, manipulating, passing and controlling the ball
Knowledge of local football & geographical areas
Strategic planning, organising and co-ordinating skill
Safeguarding and DBS
Full Clean Driving License
Use of technology to support the talent identification process.
