Position Overview
The Columbus Crew Academy Dietitian will provide nutrition services to Crew 2 and Academy athletes. Primary responsibilities include working as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, developing and streamlining nutrition education throughout the organization as a part of a One Club approach, facilitating the delivery of high-quality food, beverages and supplements to aid performance, providing 1:1 education to players and staff, and adhering to mission and values of the Columbus Crew organization.
Position Responsibilities
- Implement Crew nutrition philosophies and standards across all age groups
- Oversee the fueling of our Crew 2 and Academy athletes
- Provide performance nutrition education through created documents, presentations, digital communication and other various teaching methods to a variety of ages
- Conduct 1:1 nutrition consultations to provide individualized nutrition strategies for players based on needs, goals, and training phase
- Assists with assessing dietary practices, body composition, hydration practices and energy balance (intake and expenditure) of athletes in the context of athletic performance and well-being.
- Evaluates nutritional supplements, including herbal supplements, for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy, monitors the use of appropriate supplementation
- Participate with athletic training, performance, and strength and conditioning staff to ensure a comprehensive approach for players rehabbing from an injury (Injury nutrition, return to play, pre- and post- surgery, etc.)
- Integrate with sport coaches, strength and conditioning staff, sports medicine staff to ensure a comprehensive approach to training, nutrition and recovery, as well as aiding in the treatment of nutritional- related medical issues
- Ensure nutrition services at Columbus Crew are based on the latest, evidence-based practices in the field by staying up to date on scientific research and trends in performance nutrition
- Coordinate meals with stadium locations, caterers and/or chefs at both home and road locations (snack bags, hotel menus, bus/airport meals, post-match meals, etc.)
- Occasional travel for matches and tournaments for Academy and Crew 2
- Help to create a curriculum of culinary performance methods and techniques for Academy and Crew 2 (i.e. cooking classes/demos)
- Maintain effective communication regarding athlete nutrition with the Head of Nutrition
- Attend various staff meetings as requested (medical, performance, return to play, etc.)
- Assist with off-season camps for Academy and Crew 2
- Hours include nights, weekends, some holidays
- Days may include long standing durations and lifting heavy objects
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nutrition/dietetics or other related field from an accredited university or college
- Completion of a coordinated and/or didactic program in dietetics and supervised practice program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics
- RD credential required (with active registration through CDR)
- Minimum 2 years' experience working in athletics; specifically, youth and high school aged athletes
- Obtain licensure in the state of Ohio prior to first day
- Complete Safe Sport certifications prior to first day
- Working towards obtaining CSSD (Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics)
- Must have an outstanding work ethic and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain HIPPA confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certified specialist in sports dietetics (CSSD)
- Master's degree in nutrition/dietetics or other related field from an accredited university or college
- Previous experience in professional or collegiate soccer
