About the role:
WA Football is seeking a Regional Talent Coach to enhance the identification, development and support of talented young footballers across regional Western Australia.
This full-time role can be based in Perth or within one of the regions serviced by the position and will involve regular drive-in, drive-out travel to regions within reasonable driving distance of Perth. This is a 3-year maximum term contract.
The primary focus of the position is to identify, develop and support talented regional footballers and increase their opportunities to participate and progress within WA Talent Pathways.
The successful candidate will work directly with identified and emerging talented players in their local environments, providing high-quality coaching and individual development support while connecting them with appropriate talent pathway opportunities.
The role will work closely with players, families, clubs, leagues, schools, regional football staff and pathway partners to provide more regular access to high-quality talent development within regional communities.
Player development will be delivered within a culturally competent framework that prioritises the wellbeing and development of young people.
Primary responsibilities include :
- Identify and monitor emerging talented footballers across the regions serviced by the role.
- Plan and deliver high-quality coaching and individual development opportunities for identified players.
- Support players both on and off the field and connect them with appropriate talent pathway opportunities.
- Build strong relationships with players, families, clubs, leagues, schools, regional communities and pathway partners.
- Support players to participate in representative matches, carnivals and other WA Talent Pathway opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with regional stakeholders to maximise talent identification and development opportunities.
- Support the development of local coaches and quality talent development environments.
- Ensure all programs prioritise athlete wellbeing, psychological safety and child safeguarding.
Skills And Experiences
To be considered for this position you will need to demonstrate :
Essential
- Strong understanding of contemporary talent identification and talent development processes.
- Understanding of WA football pathways and the development needs of talented young players.
- Demonstrated coaching and mentorship experience.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with young people, families, coaches, clubs and regional football stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, show initiative and operate effectively across geographically dispersed regions.
- Experience working with young people in a safe, inclusive and development-focused environment.
- Willingness and ability to undertake regular regional travel, including overnight stays where required.
- Current WA Driver’s Licence and Working with Children Check.
- Ability to effectively use relevant technology to support player and program development.
Desirable
- Gold Level AFL Coach Accreditation or equivalent advanced coaching accreditation.
- Experience within WAFL, State Academy or other talent pathway programs.
- Experience working within regional football environments.
- Knowledge of regional WA football competitions and talent pathways.
- Experience developing individual development plans for talented young athletes.
- Experience developing and mentoring coaches.
