Job Overview

The Regional Area Lead Scout plays a key role in leading the club’s recruitment activity within a designated region, helping to identify, track, and attract high potential players. Working closely with grassroots football, professional academies, and emerging talent markets, the role supports the early stages of the club’s player pathway and long-term recruitment strategy.

By managing regional scouting operations, supporting Development Centre activity, and building strong relationships across the local football landscape, the Area Lead Scout helps strengthen the club’s presence within the market while contributing to future player development and succession planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the recruitment activity within the region, ensuring player identification and scouting processes are aligned with the club’s recruitment strategy and timelines

  • Support, guide, and manage a team of grassroots and academy scouts to ensure high-quality reporting and consistent standards across the region

  • Oversee the running of the Development Centre and support the identification and progression of high-potential players into the Academy pathway

  • Organise weekly scouting schedules and fixture coverage to ensure strong visibility across key games, events, and talent areas

  • Maintain strong knowledge of the regional talent landscape, including grassroots football, academies, private programmes, and non-league environments

  • Coordinate tournament and event coverage across the region, ensuring the club has exposure to key talent opportunities

  • Provide clear and well-structured player recommendations through detailed scouting reports and discussions

  • Contribute to player review meetings and support decision-making processes around trials, signings, and player retention

  • Track and monitor identified players within the region, maintaining regular updates on their development and progression

  • Provide regular updates and insights on the region to senior recruitment staff and key stakeholders

  • Gather relevant background and character information on priority players to support recruitment decisions

  • Complete live and video scouting assignments to support wider player assessment processes

  • Maintain a strong understanding of current Academy players to support benchmarking and succession planning

  • Ensure all recruitment activity is carried out in line with safeguarding, compliance, and club standards

Knowledge

  • Extensive experience within an elite academy recruitment or scouting environment (Category 1–3 desirable)

  • Proven track record in talent identification and player acquisition within a defined region

  • Strong understanding of grassroots, academy, and non-league football structures

  • In-depth knowledge of long-term player development and talent pathways

  • Minimum The Football Association Talent ID Level 2 (Level 3 desirable)

  • Strong understanding of EPPP standards and recruitment processes

Specialist Skills

  • Advanced talent identification and player profiling across multiple age groups

  • Ability to lead regional recruitment planning and execution

  • High-level reporting, including clear articulation of player potential and risk

  • Strong organisational skills in managing fixtures, schedules, and scouting coverage

  • Competence in using scouting platforms, video analysis, and data systems

  • Ability to integrate live scouting, video, and background intelligence into decision-making

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to identify market opportunities and gaps

People Skills

  • Leadership and management of a regional scouting team, driving performance and accountability

  • Strong collaboration with recruitment leads, coaching staff, and MDT departments

  • Confident communicator, able to present insights and influence decision-making at senior level

  • Builds and maintains relationships with grassroots clubs, academies, and key stakeholders

  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, and reliability

  • Acts as the club’s primary representative within the regional football landscape
