Job Summary:
As the Senior Director, Commerce, you will lead Angel City FC’s merchandise and retail business, translating the club’s brand into products that fuel fandom and drive revenue. You will develop diverse product lines (from kits and evergreen merchandise to lifestyle collaborations and licensing), and own multi-channel retail operations (e-commerce, in-stadium retail, and pop-ups).
You will lead a small team of specialists and work closely with our creative, integrated marketing, consumer data & insights, and partnerships teams.
The ideal candidate is equal parts brand builder and business operator: they understand the cultural power of merchandise in women’s sports, while running the function with commercial rigor, operational discipline, and creative flair.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute Angel City’s merchandising and retail strategy
- Set annual revenue and margin targets; manage budgets, forecasts, and long-range planning for commerce
- Build and mentor a small but mighty commerce team (Senior Manager and Coordinator), fostering a culture of creativity, agility, and commercial excellence
- Oversee relationships with Nike, Fanatics, licensees, and distribution partners, ensuring innovation and operational excellence
Merchandise Development & Licensing
- Lead product calendar development — core kits, seasonal lines, evergreen essentials, and limited-edition collaborations
- Oversee all product development processes: design briefs, approvals, sampling, and production timelines
- Ensure a strong connection to trends and infuse learnings regularly with design to ensure the relevancy of the product
- Expand Angel City’s licensing and co-branded product portfolio to unlock new global audiences
Retail & E-Commerce Operations
- Oversee multi-channel retail operations: e-commerce (Shopify), stadium store, pop-ups, and wholesale.
- Ensure strong operational execution — inventory management, fulfillment, customer service, and retail experience
- Support Sr. Manager and Coordinator in buying and in warehouse operations
- Partner with marketing and data & insights teams to optimize conversion funnels, customer journey, and e-comm performance
Collaboration & Storytelling
- Partner with creative team to ensure every product is brand-led and culturally resonant
- Work with integrated marketing team to turn launches into moments, supported across social, paid and earned media
- Collaborate with partnerships teams to create unique sponsor-aligned products and with ticketing team to create compelling ticket packs
Requirements:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in merchandising, retail or consumer products, ideally with exposure to sports, lifestyle, or fashion brands
- Proven success in building and scaling a commerce function, with measurable revenue and margin growth
- Strong understanding of licensing, vendor management, and product development processes
- Demonstrated ability to blend creative brand storytelling with operational and financial discipline.
- Experience managing e-commerce platforms (Shopify or equivalent)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfort operating in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.
- Passion for Angel City’s mission and women’s sports
Compensation
The base salary range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000 annually, plus bonus eligibility.
